Riding Star plays not unlike My Very First Development Effort, and manages to take the venerable RenderWare Engine and strips it. It's not just that the game is paced so languidly that it could be responsible for an outbreak of comatose teenyboppers. It's not just that it may well be one of the ugliest games I've seen in recent memory. It's not even that once you've gone through the tutorial you've essentially seen the entire game (even the later parts)No, the issue here is that all of these problems dog pile atop one another, creating an experience that's so dry and mindlessly clunky that I have a very hard time believing even a seven year-old girl -- with her entire bedroom wallpapered in pictures of ponies -- would be able to stomach things for more than a few minutes. It's not that Riding Star is flat-out offensive (though the game's single-digit framerate sure as hell isn't appealing), it's that the game is something far, far worse: it's boring, requiring an amount of tedious tending to the equestrian pals that quickly goes from being novel and devolves into endless repetition.
